Storytime
Story Time is a program that Genesis runs during the fall and winter months. This program is designed to give Genesis the opportunity to continue building positive relationships with the niños and orphanage staff, while delivering a program that promotes morals/values through literacy and the arts. Story Time is targeted for niños from 5-12 years and runs 3-4 hours in length. The program is created with mobility so Genesis is able to run a Story Time at various locations: orphanages, parks, or Rancho Genesis Camp. Although Story Time typically operates on a Saturday, Genesis is flexible to meet the needs of the orphanages and will run the program, on alternative days if needed.
Designed around a central theme, there are four main components to the structure of Story Time: literacy, arts (crafts, music, and drama), co-operative games and a snack time. Genesis supports the theory that children learn in different ways and that each child needs the opportunity to discover their individual strengths.
During 2005-2006, Story Time was designed around the central theme of values. Using fables, allegories, poems, and quotes from the book, El libro de Los Valores, each session focuses on a specific value (honesty, friendship, respect, thankfulness). The activities reinforce the specific value, as well as promote self worth, life skills, healthy relationships, creative thinking, and problem solving.
